Plant Germplasm

A Data Collection Framework and Questionnaire Gao ID: PEMD-91-5B October 10, 1990

GAO examined the Agricultural Research Service's management of plant germplasm stores and presented its design of a new method for obtaining more and complete information to improve such management.

GAO noted that its data collection framework and questionnaire, intended to obtain information about germplasm resources from plant scientists in the United States and foreign countries, included such components as: (1) amount of stored germplasm; (2) endangered geographic sites of origin; (3) condition of stored germplasm; (4) status of description of stored germplasm; (5) emphasis in research and breeding programs; (6) susceptibility of cultivars to disease, pests, and the environment; and (7) size of genetic base.
