High-Value Products and U.S. Export Promotion Efforts Gao ID: T-GGD-92-64 July 28, 1992GAO believes that promoting high-value agricultural products has merit, but the amount of federal funds to be spent on such assistance and how they should be used should not be determined in isolation. In GAO's view, the most important consideration is that a long-term agricultural trade strategy be developed and integrated into a comprehensive governmentwide export promotion plan in order to ensure that taxpayer dollars are effectively spent.
