Issues Related to the Export Credit Guarantee Programs Gao ID: T-GGD-93-28 May 6, 1993The Export Credit and Intermediate Export Credit Guarantee Programs are the major U.S. agricultural export promotion programs. The Agriculture Department makes a total of $5.7 billion in government loan guarantees available each year for foreign country buyers of U.S. agricultural commodities. This testimony provides a brief overview of the programs, describing how they work, what type of agricultural commodities and products are sold under the programs, and who the participants are. GAO also highlights several significant problems besetting the programs.
