Solid Wood Packing Material From China Gao ID: OGC-99-2 October 2, 1998

Pursuant to a legislative requirement, GAO reviewed the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service's (APHIS) new rule on solid wood packing material from China. GAO noted that: (1) the rule would require that wooden pallets, crating, dunnage, and other wood packing material imported into the United States from China will have to be heat-treated, fumigated, or treated with preservatives prior to departure from China; and (2) APHIS complied with applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
