Food Stamp Program: Non-Discretionary Provisions of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 Gao ID: OGC-01-9 November 7, 2000

Pursuant to a legislative requirement, GAO reviewed the Food and Nutrition Services' (FNS) new rule on the nondiscretionary provisions of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act that affect the Food Stamp Program. GAO noted that: (1) the rule would include changes in the minimum and maximum allotments of benefits, the standard shelter deductions, household composition, the fair market value of vehicles, the definition of homeless, and expedited service; and (2) FNS complied with applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
