Inventory of Federal Programs Directly Related To Improving Private Sector Productivity

Gao ID: GGD-85-16 December 14, 1984

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO updated the inventory of federally funded programs directly related to private sector productivity improvement.

GAO estimated that the federal government spent over $2.4 billion in fiscal year 1983 on programs directly related to private sector productivity improvement. GAO found that, although there was no overlap or duplication in the programs that it reviewed, there was little or no program coordination. GAO also found a lack of program reviews and evaluations for determining program impact on private sector productivity.
