Information Dissemination
Innovative Ways Agencies Are Using Technology Gao ID: T-IMTEC-92-6 February 19, 1992GAO testified on how some federal agencies, including the U.S. Geological Survey, Department of Commerce, Government Printing Office, Patent and Trademark Office, and Department of Agriculture, are using technology to provide the public with cheaper, faster access to a wider range of information. These technological applications enable users to search and manipulate information in ways never before possible on the printed page. As a result, users can create new information by selecting, combining, and arranging data within a matter of seconds. The applications that GAO discusses were developed using compact disc-read only memory, bulletin board systems, voice messaging/facsimile, and floppy discs.
