Information on Claim for Compensation Due Military Member for Moving His Own Household Goods

Gao ID: LCD-77-239 October 11, 1977

A claim submitted to the Navy Finance Center by OSC Ralph R. Rogers involved compensation due Mr. Rogers for moving his own household goods. Under the Department of Defense's "do-it-yourself" program, he was entitled to compensation based on a percentage of the costs the government would have incurred if a commercial mover had been employed.

The single weight ticket Mr. Rogers submitted in support of his claim did not give the Finance Center the net weight of the goods moved, nor did it provide the Center with the information it needed to compute the net weight. Since net weight is the basis for payment, the Center had no alternative but to seek other means to establish the net weight, delaying the final settlement of the claim. According to the records of the Finance Center, a check has been mailed to Mr. Rogers for this claim.
