Summaries of Conclusions and Recommendations on Department of Defense Operations

A summary of GAO recommendations and conclusions resulting from its audits and other review work in the Department of Defense, compiled to assist congressional committees in their review of budget requests for fiscal year l980 is presented. The reports previously have been brought to the attention of Congress and departmental officials. Suggested questions to be asked in appropriations hearings are not provided; however, specific questions on the items summarized will be made available upon request. The survey summaries are arranged by topic and include related GAO budget functions, legislative authority, specific appropriations involved, and issues for appropriations committee consideration.
