GAO was requested to provide information on the annual costs for each of the military- and security-related aid programs.

The information provided, which was for fiscal years 1977 through 1983, concerned the: (1) five major security assistance programs proposed by the administration and funded through congressional appropriations; (2) activities which can be considered security and military assistance related; (3) financial arrangements used to facilitate the sale of military equipment; (4) activities which help develop foreign economies and defense industries; (5) top companies supplying military equipment through foreign military sales and commercial channels; and (6) previous reports concerning foreign military sales.
