Survey of Equipment Requirements To Support U.S. Army Forces

Gao ID: NSIAD-84-58 February 8, 1984

GAO reviewed two systems used by the Army for identification of equipment requirements to determine whether deficiencies previously identified by GAO had been corrected.

GAO found that longstanding problems have not been corrected. These problems are: (1) interfering with Army attempts to create a standardized force structure; (2) causing some combat units to report higher readiness than actually existed; and (3) causing inaccurate data to be supplied for the planning, budgeting, and acquisition processes. GAO noted that internal audits have highlighted these weaknesses; and the Army to has begun taking corrective action.
