Intermediate-Level Maintenance for Navy Tactical Missiles Can Be Better Managed

Gao ID: NSIAD-84-64 March 5, 1984

GAO reviewed the Navy's management of intermediate-level maintenance for tactical missiles.

GAO found that the cost of missile maintenance reached about $23 million in fiscal year (FY) 1983 and, although the Navy has made some maintenance improvements, it needs to make further improvements if maintenance activities are to be effectively managed. GAO believes that better techniques are needed to monitor and evaluate the performance of missile maintenance activities for air- and surface-launched missiles.
