Comments on DOD Response to Congressionally Posed Questions on Military Readiness]

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO commented on the Department of Defense's (DOD) response to a number of congressional questions regarding the overall fighting capability of the military forces. While DOD provided information showing progress in some areas, namely force structure, modernization, and personnel readiness, improvement in these areas might be offset by deficiencies in the areas of equipment condition and supplies and in sustainability. GAO noted that this points to an imbalance among these four functional areas.
