Potential Reductions to M1 Tank and Bradley Fighting Vehicle Budgets Gao ID: NSIAD-86-136BR June 11, 1986

In response to a congressional request, GAO reviewed the basis and justification for the Army's fiscal year (FY) 1987 budget requests for M1 tanks and Bradley Fighting Vehicles.

GAO identified potential reductions in the Army's FY 1987 budget request for the M1 tank and the Bradley Fighting Vehicle and in its FY 1986 funds for this equipment. In the budget requests, potential reductions amounted to $57.6 million for the major cost elements of the M1 tank and $72.5 million for the major cost elements of the Bradley vehicle. In the FY 1986 budgets, potential reductions amounted to $61.5 million for the basic M1 tank and its engine and $1.3 million for the contractor-engineering portion of the Bradley program.
