Potential Reductions to Army and Marine Corps Missile Budgets Gao ID: NSIAD-86-158BR August 6, 1986

GAO examined the Army's and Marine Corps' fiscal year (FY) 1987 appropriation requests for $2.099 billion and $242.5 million, respectively, for missile systems. The Army's request was for seven missile systems while the Marine Corps' request was for three missile systems.

GAO found possible reductions totalling: (1) $156.1 million in the Army's and Marine Corps' FY 1987 requests; and (2) $66.3 million in the programs for FY 1984, FY 1985, and FY 1986. GAO noted that the possible reductions resulted from: (1) recalculations of estimates using more current contract information; (2) revised Army estimates; (3) historical experience; and (4) deferral of the Army's request for funds for procurements in FY 1987.
