Actions Taken To Improve Lockheed's Special Access Document Accountability Gao ID: NSIAD-88-2BR November 16, 1987

In response to a congressional request, GAO reviewed a defense contractor's corrective actions to improve its classified document accountability under its special-access program.

GAO found that: (1) of the 235 classified documents reviewed, only 3 documents did not have proper documentation supporting their disposition; (2) it could not locate two documents or documentation supporting their disposition, and documentation supporting the third did not have proper destruction signatures; (3) there were 4 administrative and clerical errors, which the contractor corrected; (4) 33 of the 149 discrepancy investigation reports reviewed had conflicting information or were incomplete; and (5) the contractor planned to improve the quality of its investigations when its investigations group was fully staffed and trained.
