Bradley Vehicle Test Plans

More Information Is Needed To Fully Assess Vehicle's Survivability Gao ID: NSIAD-87-179 July 23, 1987

Pursuant to a legislative requirement, GAO reviewed the Department of Defense's (DOD) and the Army's plans to test the Bradley Fighting Vehicle.

GAO found that: (1) the Army intended to test survivability enhancements on two versions of the Bradley; (2) the live-fire test plan did not provide for the firing of a statistically significant number of test rounds from certain weapons likely to be threats; (3) Army officials stated that they intended to use computer modeling to analyze the live-fire test results; (4) the operational test plans included testing against neither predominantly armored forces nor helicopters; and (5) the Army intended to use computer modeling to simulate the helicopter threat.
