Potential Reductions to M1 Tank and Bradley Fighting Vehicle Budgets Gao ID: NSIAD-87-169BR August 6, 1987

In response to a congressional request, GAO reviewed the Army's fiscal year (FY) 1988 budget request for the Bradley Fighting Vehicle and the M-1 Tank.

GAO identified potential program reductions of $81.8 million for FY 1988, $84.7 million for FY 1987, and $31.6 million for FY 1986 by updating the Army's estimates and using more current contract information. GAO noted that, if the Army decides not to improve the Bradley's survivability, there will be an additional potential reduction of $159.8 million. Army officials noted that, because they had already reduced the quantities of vehicles they requested, they could use the potential reductions to buy additional M-1 tanks and Bradleys.
