Potential Reductions to Aircraft Procurement Budgets Gao ID: NSIAD-87-204BR September 10, 1987

In response to a congressional request, GAO reviewed selected helicopter procurement line items in the Army's fiscal year (FY) 1988 budget request to identify any excess funds.

GAO found that: (1) there were potential reductions of $66.7 million for FY 1988, $116.6 million for FY 1987, and $31.4 million for FY 1986 in all of the helicopter programs; and (2) the Army believes that Congress should not reduce any of its aircraft budgets, since it could use any excess funds for other program requirements that were underbudgeted.
