Status of the Army's Logistics and Technical Information Initiatives Gao ID: IMTEC-89-10 October 31, 1988

In response to a congressional request, GAO provided information on the Army's efforts to identify integration and interoperability requirements for its automated logistics and technical information initiatives.

GAO found that the Army: (1) issued a directive to establish a strategy for identifying systems integration and interoperability requirements for all of its technical information systems; (2) required each Army command and activity to implement the strategy by the end of fiscal year (FY) 1989, prior to funding any new information systems initiatives; and (3) was in the process of implementing the strategy in its key logistics organizations. GAO also found that: (1) the Army's FY 1989 budget request may not contain the necessary requirements for its automated logistics and technical information systems; and (2) there were no major problems relating to oversight, compliance with acquisition regulations, cost reporting, or measurement of project benefits.
