Funding Needs Through Completion of Phase I System Gao ID: NSIAD-90-79FS January 29, 1990

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reviewed the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization's (SDIO) funding requirements through completion of phase I of the Strategic Defense Initiative and for research and other programs not part of phase I.

GAO found that SDIO estimated that beginning in 1990, it would need $87 billion to complete phase I development and deployment, $10.1 billion for operations and support, and $26.4 billion to fund other research and development through 1994.
