Potential Reductions to the Strategic Missile Systems Budget Gao ID: NSIAD-91-66BR December 7, 1990

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reviewed the Air Force's funding requirements for fiscal years 1989, 1990, and 1991 for the Peacekeeper Rail Garrison, Minuteman, Peacekeeper missile, and Advanced Cruise Missile weapons systems and the Rapid Execution and Combat Targeting (REACT) program to identify potential budget reductions.

GAO found that total potential budget reductions and rescissions totalled $2.138 billion in the Air Force's procurement, operations, and maintenance, and military construction appropriation accounts for its strategic missile systems, including: (1) $1.8 billion for the Peacekeeper Rail Garrison; (2) $95.7 million for the Minuteman II missile system; (3) $93.7 million for the Peacekeeper missile; and (4) $94.1 million for the REACT program.
