ADP Budget

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO provided information on the Navy's and the Marine Corps' fiscal year (FY) 1991 budget requests and past appropriations for six automatic data processing (ADP) resources.

GAO found that: (1) there were potential budget reductions of $20.5 million to the Navy's FY 1991 budget request for its inventory control points (ICP) program; (2) the Navy planned to spend $18.4 million to modernize ICP, although its future was uncertain and the Navy did not justify a $2.1-million procurement request; (3) the Navy no longer required its $3.5-million request for its Stock Point ADP Replacement program, since it cancelled its planned modernization; (4) there were potential budget reductions of $29.48 million to the Navy's FY 1991 budget request for the Engineering Data Management Information and Control System (EDMICS); (5) the potential reductions to Navy's Station Information Management System totalled $7.96 million; (6) for FY 1991, the Navy requested $1.4 million in procurement funds to buy additional Naval Occupational Health Information Management System hardware, but later revised its planned expenditures to $.1 million; and (7) for FY 1991, the Marine Corps requested $11.1 million in procurement funds to procure hardware and software for its Central Processing Unit, but changes in procurement plans resulted in potential budget reductions of $2.4 million.
