Health Care Gao ID: IMTEC-93-29R June 3, 1993

GAO reviewed the implementation of the Department of Defense's (DOD) Corporate Information Management (CIM) initiative in military health services. GAO noted that: (1) CIM provides an opportunity for the military to systematically reengineer the way it delivers health care services; (2) DOD has not developed a systemwide strategic plan with measureable goals and objectives to guide the restructuring of military health services; (3) CIM organizational placement has limited the scope and impact of CIM activities; (4) CIM work groups have made progress in documenting current business processes and data requirements for the future delivery of military health services; and (5) CIM principles support a reexamination of the military health services' business practices.
