Air Force FY 1992 Financial Audits

GAO reviewed the fiscal year 1992 audits of the Air Force's consolidated financial statements and its Defense Business Operations Fund activities. GAO noted that: (1) although the Air Force Audit Agency (AFAA) complied with professional auditing standards, its reporting of the audit results could have been strengthened by including additional detailed information on the reports' findings, prior recommendations, and the controls AFAA assessed; (2) the June 1993 report on the Air Force's general fund financial statements referenced a number of reports that were issued after that date; (3) references to other reports should have been limited to reports already published or nearing publication; and (4) it affirmed a prior recommendation that all draft reports should be referenced to original audit working papers or to auditors' summaries that have been referenced to original working papers.
