Update of DOE Staffing Levels Under the Assistant Secretary for Conservation and Renewable Energy

Gao ID: RCED-83-177 June 6, 1983

In response to a congressional request, GAO determined: (1) staffing trends for the Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of the Assistant Secretary for Conservation and Renewable Energy Programs since a 1982 GAO report on staffing levels; and (2) the extent to which DOE has complied with staffing requirements for those program areas affected by legislatively required minimum staffing levels.

GAO found that the total staff has been reduced by 48 since the previous report was issued. DOE stated that the overall decrease generally resulted from attrition and a reduction-in-force action. GAO also found that DOE has not achieved congressionally required staffing levels.
