Information on DOE's Costing and Pricing of Uranium Enrichment Services

Gao ID: RCED-84-156 April 25, 1984

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO addressed questions pertaining to the Department of Energy's (DOE) uranium enrichment program.

GAO provided information on: (1) DOE pricing policy and practices for enrichment services; (2) historical costs and prices for such services by separative work unit; (3) the accumulated profit and loss reported for the program; (4) the implications of a price ceiling for enrichment services; and (5) GAO efforts to obtain information from DOE on the ceiling price. GAO noted that the market environment in which the program operates has changed significantly since the program's inception and that efforts to adjust to the change may conflict with the program's cost recovery requirements.
