Energy Conservation Program for Consumer Products: Final Rule Regarding Energy Conservation Standards for Room Air Conditioners Gao ID: OGC-98-13 November 21, 1997

Pursuant to a legislative requirement, GAO reviewed the Department of Energy's (DOE) new rule on the energy conservation program for consumer products. GAO noted that: (1) the rule amends existing energy conservation standards for room air conditioners and is expected to conserve a significant amount of energy, as well as be technologically feasible and economically justified; and (2) DOE complied with applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
