Energy Conservation Program for Consumer Products--Energy Conservation Standards for Refrigerators, Refrigerator-Freezers and Freezers Gao ID: OGC-97-61 September 8, 1997

Pursuant to a legislative requirement, GAO reviewed the Department of Energy's (DOE) new rule on the energy conservation program for consumer products. GAO noted that: (1) the rule revises the energy consumption standards for refrigerators, refrigerator-freezers, and freezers and is expected to result in reduced energy consumption, reduced consumer costs, and reduced emissions of air pollutants associated with electricity production; and (2) DOE complied with applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
