Need To Improve Unit Times for Estimating Field Office Staff Budgets Gao ID: GGD-86-90 August 6, 1986

GAO reviewed the Social Security Administration's (SSA) use of unit time to estimate its field office staffing needs.

GAO found that: (1) SSA develops and uses unit times and works to keep them current by adjusting them for methods, procedures, and systems changes; and (2) SSA could make its unit times more efficient by using engineered time standards.
