HHS OIG

Review of Its Investigation of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Bureau of Family Support Operations Gao ID: OSI-99-17R August 9, 1999

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reviewed whether the Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) conducted a thorough and complete investigation of possible misconduct by management of the Los Angeles District Attorney's Bureau of Family Support Operations (BFSO).

GAO noted that: (1) the HHS OIG did not attempt to corroborate the information provided by the former BFSO employee because the Regional Inspector General determined that the information was dated and did not believe that fraud had occurred; and (2) therefore, HHS OIG did not conduct an investigation of the alleged misconduct.
