Medicare Inpatient Disproportionate Share Hospital Adjustment Calculation--Change in the Treatment of Certain Medicaid Patient Days Gao ID: OGC-00-18 February 4, 2000

Pursuant to a legislative requirement, GAO reviewed the Health Care Financing Administration's (HCFA) new rule on Medicare inpatient disproportionate share hospital (DSH) adjustment calculation. GAO noted that the: (1) rule implements a change to the Medicare DSH adjustment calculations policy in reference to section 1115 expansion waiver days; (2) the rule sets forth the criteria to be used in calculating Medicare DSH adjustment for hospitals for purposes of payment under the prospective payment system; and (3) HCFA complied with applicable requirements in promulgating the role.
