INS' Krome Detention Center

Data Show No Felon Records Gao ID: GGD-88-62 April 7, 1988

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO investigated the Immigration and Naturalization Service's (INS) Krome Detention and Processing Center to determine if it was detaining any aliens convicted of felonies.

GAO found that, as of February 29, 1988, the facility: (1) held 129 aliens, none of whom had felony convictions; (2) had released or transferred to other facilities 226 aliens convicted of felonies; and (3) was in compliance with a law prohibiting it from detaining aliens convicted of felonies after February 28, 1988, until it upgraded security.
