Respiratory Protection Gao ID: OGC-98-24 January 23, 1998

Pursuant to a legislative requirement, GAO reviewed the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) new rule on respiratory protection. GAO noted that: (1) the rule would adopt respiratory protection standards applying to general industry, construction, shipyard, longshoring, and marine terminal work places; (2) the rule would require employers to establish and maintain a respiratory protection program and includes requirements for program administration and other provisions; and (3) OSHA complied with applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
