Status of the Bureau of Indian Affairs' Muskogee and Anadarko Area Office Consolidation

Gao ID: RCED-84-89 January 17, 1984

In response to a congressional request, GAO reviewed personnel and administrative changes at the Muskogee and Anadarko, Oklahoma, area offices of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) to evaluate the status of the offices' consolidation.

In response to budget reductions and a desire for more efficient area office administration, most of the administrative responsibilities were consolidated at Anadarko with the shift of staff positions from Muskogee. Although some program changes also occurred, most program responsibilities continued to be provided from both offices. Except for continuing efforts to decentralize BIA area office services to agency offices, all of the consolidation changes planned for the two offices have been completed.
