Construction Contract at Jean Lafitte National Historical Park Gao ID: RCED-86-232FS September 26, 1986

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reviewed whether a contractor met all the standards of work on a contract to construct a visitor facility at the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park.

GAO found that, as of June 1986: (1) the contractor and the National Park Service's (NPS) Denver Service Center shared the responsibility for construction delays; (2) the increase in contract costs was due to the short time NPS allotted for designing the project, modifications to the original contract, and unforeseen site conditions; and (3) although contract modifications extended the completion date by 8 months, NPS officials found that the contractor's work met the standards specified in the contract.
