Contracts Under the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act

Gao ID: OGC-96-23 July 5, 1996

Pursuant to a legislative requirement, GAO reviewed the Bureau of Indian Affairs' (BIA) and the Indian Health Services' (IHS) new rule on contracts under the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. GAO found that: (1) the joint rule would permit BIA and IHS to award contracts and grants to Indian tribes under a single set of rules; and (2) BIA and IHS followed applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
