Survey of Utilization of Training Received by Civilian Employees at IRS

Gao ID: 100636 October 22, 1976

A study of training courses for Internal Revenue Service (IRS) employees showed that they were generally useful but could use some improvement. A representative sample of employees at IRS headquarters was interviewed to determine the extent of their utilization of training programs in job performance. Similar studies were done at four other agencies in the Washington, D.C. area.

A training utilization rate of 72 percent was found, the highest rate of agencies studied. Those who did not find training useful stated that courses were not related to duties or were designed for field employees.
