Performance Management and Recognition System Performance Awards Gao ID: GGD-86-79FS May 16, 1986

In response to a congressional request, GAO provided information concerning five federal agencies' expenditures under the Performance Management and Recognition System (PMRS).

GAO noted that PMRS legislation established minimum and maximum aggregate amounts to be spent on performance awards. GAO found that: (1) one of the agencies spent more in fiscal year (FY) 1986 than in FY 1985 for PMRS performance awards; (2) one agency estimated that it would spend less on the awards in FY 1986 than in FY 1985; and (3) three agencies estimated that they would spend more on the awards in FY 1986 than in FY 1985.
