FAA Needs Preboard Passenger Screening Performance Standards Gao ID: RCED-87-182 July 24, 1987

GAO provided information on its work to date on the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) testing of preboard passenger screening.

GAO found that, although the preboard screening process has provided a deterrent to crimes against civil aviation, there were wide variations, from a high of 99 percent to a low of 34 percent, in the frequency with which FAA detected weapons.
