Status of GAO's Open Recommendations on Transportation Policies and Programs Gao ID: RCED-91-112 April 10, 1991

GAO provided information on 142 open recommendations related to transportation issues to focus attention on matters that are of primary interest to congressional committees and subcommittees with transportation-related responsibilities and to supplement information it provided in its annual governmentwide report on open recommendations.

GAO presented information on: (1) the impact of its work in the transportation area since 1985; (2) key open recommendations regarding air traffic control modernization, transportation infrastructure, and management improvements; (3) the status of actions on recommendations GAO made in its transportation products between January 1985 and September 1990; (4) the background and findings of reports that have open transportation-related recommendations; and (5) recommendation addresses. GAO noted that: (1) some action was in process for 55 of the open recommendations; (2) no action had been initiated on 71 recommendations, many of which were in more recent reports; (3) the actions taken on 8 recommendations were not fully responsive; and (4) action was not intended on 8 recommendations.
