Final Rule for New Gasoline Spark-Ignition Marine Engines and Rules for New Nonroad Compression-Ignition and New Nonroad Spark-Ignition Engines Gao ID: OGC-96-45 October 17, 1996

Pursuant to a legislative requirement, GAO reviewed the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) new rule on new gasoline spark-ignition marine engines. GAO found that: (1) the rule would regulate exhaust emissions from new spark-ignition gasoline marine engines beginning with the 1998 model year; (2) the rule also exempts new nonroad compression-ignition engines at or above 37 kilowatts and new nonroad spark-ignition engines at or below 19 kilowatts; and (3) EPA complied with applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
