National Primary Drinking Water Regulations--Interim Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Gao ID: OGC-99-26 December 30, 1998

Pursuant to a legislative requirement, GAO reviewed the Environmental Protection Agency's new rule on national primary drinking water regulations and interim enhanced surface water treatment. GAO noted that: (1) the rule would improve control of microbial pathogens, including the protozoan Cryptosporidium, in drinking water and address risk tradeoffs with disinfection byproducts; and (2) EPA complied with the applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
