Pursuant to a legislative requirement, GAO reviewed the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) new rule on national primary drinking water regulations on disinfectants and disinfection byproducts. GAO noted that: (1) the rule would establish the maximum residual disinfectant level goals, the maximum contaminant level goals and national primary drinking water regulations for various disinfectants and disinfectant byproducts; and (2) EPA complied with applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
