Duplicate Programs To Identify Minority Businesses

Gao ID: PLRD-82-58 March 23, 1982

Federal agency activities designed to promote Government contracting with socially and economically disadvantaged businesses have, in some cases, resulted in duplicative efforts.

GAO reviewed programs in six agencies and found that duplication existed among three of them, including the: (1) Small Business Administration (SBA); (2) Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA); and (3) Department of Defense (DOD). However, because GAO surveyed only six Government agencies, the potential exists that similar activities are occurring in other agencies.
