Deficit Reductions for Fiscal Year 1990

Compliance With the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1989 Gao ID: AFMD-90-49 January 26, 1990

Pursuant to a legislative requirement, GAO reviewed the President's and the Office of Management and Budget's (OMB) compliance with the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1989 requirements to reduce budgetary resources sufficiently to bring the estimated deficit down to the target level.

GAO found that: (1) OMB issued revised sequester calculations that established across-the-board reductions of 1.5 percent for defense programs and 1.4 percent for nondefense programs; (2) the President issued his revised order implementing those reductions; and (3) both the revised sequester and the order complied with the act.
