DOT's Recommendation Response System

Gao ID: RCED-92-164R May 5, 1992

GAO reviewed the Department of Transportation's (DOT) and its operating administrations' systems for responding to GAO recommendations and tracking actions taken on them. GAO found that DOT did not comply with legislative, Office of Management and Budget (OMB), or DOT requirements to: (1) timely advise congressional committees of actions taken or to be taken on GAO recommendations; (2) establish expected dates for completing corrective actions; and (3) periodically evaluate recommendations response and tracking systems and their effectiveness.
