Unobligated Balances

GAO provided information on unobligated budget balances associated with proposed rescission items in the draft bill. GAO noted that: (1) there were 100 budget accounts associated with items listed in the draft bill; (2) for each account, it identified the presence or absence of unobligated balances; (3) some budget accounts could not be associated with items in the draft bill because the draft bill listed specific programs that were not clearly identifiable with a specific federal budget account; and (4) it did not independently verify the budget data.
