Request for Comments on Proposed Amendment

Gao ID: B-203547 October 5, 1981

GAO was asked to comment on a proposed amendment to the Federal Property Management Regulations regarding standard terminology for use in solicitation documents for publications pertaining to Federal information processing and telecommunications standards. GAO is opposed to the proposed standard for telecommunications because it is obsolete and should not be issued without the concurrence of the National Bureau of Standards. GAO also believes that a new standard should be developed for information processing based on microcomputer technology to replace the existing standard. The new standard should be a joint information processing and telecommunications standard representing an agreement between the National Bureau of Standards and the National communications system.
