Status of Selected GSA Repair and Alteration Projects Relating to the Omnibus Judgeship Act

Gao ID: PLRD-82-63 March 22, 1982

GAO was asked to determine the status of 20 repair and alteration projects which relate to the Omnibus Judgeship Act. GAO reported on the status of 9 of the 20 projects and provided information for those projects on the amounts of actual appropriations through fiscal year 1982, appropriations requested for fiscal year 1983, and actual obligations as of September 30, 1981.

A comparison of the General Services Administration's (GSA) estimated completion dates for the design and construction of the projects and the GAO estimated dates showed a number of differences. For seven of the projects, GAO estimated construction completion dates were 2 to 22 months later than the estimated completion dates furnished by GSA. For one of the projects, the estimated completion date which GAO received was 2 months earlier than shown by the information which GSA provided. GSA used quarterly status reports as the source of its information while GAO used current information obtained directly from GSA regional office personnel responsible for the projects.
